Junior cricket at Shifnal CC is the lifeblood of our club. All our senior teams are based on the foundation of the development of our junior cricketers. We welcome and coach children of all levels of ability and provide a clear pathway into our senior teams as soon as they are ready. We have a strong history of producing excellent club, district, county and national players from the age of 9 and above.
Our facilities for practice and play are some of the best in the midlands and we back this up with an excellent group of coaches and managers, who have vast experience playing for the club at all levels.
We provide a safe and fun environment for juniors to thrive and develop not as just cricketers, but also as people. We encourage juniors to help and support one another to enhance their experience and develop their leadership also. Junior coaching sessions run on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evenings throughout the summer. Please see below where you can see which session your child/children can attend, depending on their age.
In addition to our coaching sessions, we also enter into the local county junior league, cup competitions and festivals throughout the summer, as well as an indoor coaching and match programme during the winter. If you do have any queries regarding the junior programme on offer at Shifnal Cricket Club, then please get in touch via our Contact Us page.
All-Stars Cricket provides a fantastic first experience for all children aged 5-8 years old where they’re guaranteed 8 weeks of jam-packed fun, activity and skills development. Our programme is designed to introduce children to the sport, teaching them new skills, helping them make new friends and have a great time doing so.
Every child that registers will receive a backpack full of goodies. Your child’s pack will include:
All children returning to our All-Stars programme will receive a kit bag, a set of stumps, a new ball and a personalised t-shirt.
For those who have been in our programme for 2 years, we encourage them to join our Dynamos programme or hardball 9-13s programme, depending on their ability and confidence. We host All-Stars festivals to give children an opportunity to experience some fun competitions against other clubs
Dynamos Cricket provides a fanatics next step for those graduating from All-Stars Cricket. It is also perfect as an introduction for all 8-11-year-olds who are new to the sport!
Complementing our junior pathway, Dynamos provides children with a more social offer that is focused on developing movement skills and applying them to cricket. Children who register with our Dynamos also receive a t-shirt personalised with their name and a number. We host Dynamos festivals to provide children with an opportunity to develop their match skills and sportsmanship.
9 - 13 Hardball squads are made up of children who have experienced and graduated out of Dynamoes cricket, or have had experience practising and playing hardball cricket at the club or their school. We run u11 and u13 hardball match squads and play local fixtures as well as entering cup competitions and festivals. Players from these squads (mostly u13s) start to be also selected to play for our senior teams.
14 - 19 Hardball squads are made up of young people who have experienced cricket competitions and events. We run u15/16 and u19 match squads in the summer and winter.
We still encourage beginners in these age groups to join us and we offer suitable coaching accordingly. Most of these age group players also play in our senior teams and many have gone on the play senior county cricket or join first-class cricket academies too.
Shifnal Academy is made up of players aged 11 - 19 who we feel have high levels of ability and are attending district or county age group high-performance sessions. This tends to be a smaller group and is selected for an additional bespoke winter training programme, based on how they have developed and performed during the summer.
Additional coaching and holiday coaching camps can be offered on request. Bespoke 1 to 1, 1 to 2 coaching and school holiday coaching camps are available all year round for those interested in developing their cricket skills more quickly.
