The 2025 season has marked a standout year for Shifnal Cricket Club, with the team continuing to build momentum both on the local circuit and across Shropshire.
Strong attendances have created an electric match‑day atmosphere, driving exceptional performances from both Shifnal and the Shropshire County side.
The club’s progress on and off the field reflects a growing strength and professionalism that has defined this impressive campaign.

Shifnal Cricket Club took centre stage on 22 June 2025 as it hosted the NCCA semi‑final between Suffolk and Shropshire CCC. After Suffolk posted 223–9 from their 40 overs, Shropshire produced a composed and disciplined reply. Chasing a revised target of 160 from 29 overs under the DLS method, the county side held their nerve brilliantly, getting over the line with just one ball to spare to seal a four‑wicket victory and book their place in the NCCA final.
The Club welcomed overseas player Sam Scrimgeour for the 2025 season, and his impact has been felt across the board. Not only has he strengthened our 1st XI with his quality and experience, but he has also played a key role in developing our next generation of players through his coaching work with All Stars and Dynamos.

For anyone who missed our first interview with Sam, you can catch up with it here.

Shifnal Cricket Club witnessed a truly historic achievement in 2025 thanks to Tom Gough. On Saturday 3 May, during the away fixture between Shifnal 3rd XI and Bomere Heath 2nd XI, Tom delivered a performance for the ages. He struck an unbeaten 103, guiding Shifnal to an impressive total of 288 for 8. He then backed it up with the ball, claiming 5 wickets as Shifnal bowled out Bomere Heath for 193 to secure a memorable victory.
It is believed to be the first time in the club’s 176‑year history that a player has scored a century and taken five wickets in the same match — a remarkable double that cements Tom’s place in Shifnal folklore.
We also bid a sad farewell to 1st XI captain Chris Murrall. ‘Muz’ led the side with commitment and consistency for seven and a half seasons, making him one of the longest‑serving captains in the club’s 176‑year history.
His tenure stands as a remarkable achievement and a testament to his leadership on and off the field.
Whilst also celebrating the achievements of our members and volunteers, we were proud to confirm that Cricket Shropshire had presented a Lifetime Achiever Award to ‘Shell’ – Adrian Selly.
His dedication to Shifnal Cricket Club spans more than 43 years, during which he has served as a player, captain, and now our devoted groundsman. His contribution to the club’s history and community is nothing short of exceptional.

Chris Deakin was also recognised as Cricket Shropshire’s Volunteer of the Month for April, a well‑deserved honour that reflects the outstanding work he puts into the club.
His organisation of the annual Get Set weekends plays a vital role in preparing the club and its grounds for the season, and his commitment behind the scenes continues to make a real difference to Shifnal Cricket Club.

On top of our on‑field achievements, the club’s events team has delivered a fantastic programme of socials for members and the wider community. From lively quiz nights to a vibrant Ladies Day and our ever‑popular fireworks night, each event has been a tremendous success, creating memorable moments and bringing people together throughout the year.

Our very first colouring competition proved to be a huge hit, with our younger members enthusiastically bringing team players and scenes from the ground to life for the chance to win tickets to our fireworks night.
If you missed out but still want to enjoy the fun, our colouring sheets are still available to download here – purely for enjoyment now that the competition has closed.
