AGM Update - Andy takes the Chair

25 Jan 2024

Shifnal celebrated the success of the 2023 season during the annual AGM and Presentation Evening – and are looking forward to 2024 with a new Chair. At the AGM, Andrew MacNaughton took over from Alex Riley as Chair. In his day job, Andy is a respected Head at Charlton School in Wellington. He and his family have been associated with Shifnal CC for many years as players, committee member (former Bar Manager after Eddie Jones), women’s softball, juniors as well as being supporters and social members. He has two teenage children. Toby has played for the U15s I believe and enjoys practising in the nets with his friends. Andy has been a close follower of Shifnal’s fortunes down the years and can be seen at the ground on many Saturdays during the season watching and socialising. He has played for most of Shifnal’s teams down the years, primarily with the 2nd and 3XIs and has played a lot at both Priorslee Road and Weston. He has a good knowledge of the various on and off-field parts of the club and is a good team and people person. A strength is his knowledge of the school system and working with children. A big thank you to Andy for taking on his new role with the club. And also a huge thank you to outgoing Chair Alex for his time in the role. Alex is the youngest Chair in Shifnal’s history and found at the centre of very difficult and challenging circumstances with the Covid pandemic hitting society. He has put a lot of time and effort into ensuring that the club runs smoothly during his tenure, and his work is much appreciated by all. We are delighted he will still be involved at the club, agreeing to take on the role of Finance Director moving forward which is great to see. On the playing side, Chris Murrall was confirmed to continue as captain of the 1st XI in their campaign in Birmingham League Divsion One for the 2024 season. It should be an entertaining season with the division packed with Shropshire sides – so lots of derby games to look forward to. The league features Shrewsbury, Worfield, Bridgnorth and Wellington who were promoted back to Birmingham League last season after a number of years rebuilding in the Shropshire League. The 2nd XI will again be skippered by Mark Bissell for their Shropshire Divsion One campaign. Nick Shrive has agreed to take on the leadership of the 3rd XI in Shropshire League Division Four, while Paul Gough will again be in charge of the 4th XI in Sunday Division Two.
